Packaging reusable containers

Freight container means a reusable container having a volume of 64 cubic feet or more, designed and constructed to permit being lifted with its contents intact and intended primarily for containment of packages (in unit form) during transportation. [Pg.379]

Polypropylene (PP) is a thermoplastic polymer used in a wide variety of applications, including textile fibers, packaging and labeling, plastic parts and reusable containers of various types, laboratory equipment, automotive components, etc. PP is normally tough and flexible, especially when copolymerized wilh ethylene. It has good resistance to fatigue, and is unusually resistant to many chanical solvents such as bases and acids. [Pg.30]

BPA has been detected in air, sod, water, landfill leachate, and the human body. The chemical has been shown to leach into foods and beverages from some types of food packaging (e.g., polycarbonate containers and epoxy lining of metal cans) and reusable containers (von Goetz et al. 2010). People also may be exposed to BPA through skin contact, inhalation, dental fillings, and occupational exposures. BPA has been found in human serum, mUk, saliva, urine, and amniotic fluid (Vandenberg et al. 2009, 2010, 2012). [Pg.3]

Sanitization is a cleaning procedure that reduces microbial contaminants on certain surfaces to safe or relatively safe levels, as defined by the EPA or pubHc health authorities. The article is usually cleaned with hot water and various germicidal detergents. Sanitization can be safe for a product in contact with intact skin or for food utensils, but it is not considered safe for articles to be inserted in the human body. Effective sanitization is a requirement in the processing of reusable medical suppHes before packaging and sterilization. It is also a requirement in the maintenance of utensils and containers used for food preparation. [Pg.410]

BIB refers to a sealed, sprouted (small too large, with or without dispensing valves) plastic film bag inside a molded rigid container, generally for packaging liquid products. Outer box may be made of disposable corrugated cardboard, disposable or reusable... [Pg.237]

Many U.S. businesses have made the decision to receive their supplies and ship their products in reusable plastic shipping containers (RPSCs) rather than singleuse corrugated boxes. Over a period of two years, the Ford Motor Company has eliminated more than 150 million pounds of wood and cardboard packaging that would have gone to a landfill by asking its suppliers to use returnable plastic... [Pg.363]

Beware child-oriented packaging and snack sizes. Make your own lunch box portions and wrap them in wax paper or reusable bags or containers. [Pg.51]

In distribution of automobile parts, reusable plastic totes have, to a considerable extent, displaced corrugated boxes. The plastic containers have a higher initial purchase price but a much longer lifetime. Of course, they must be managed appropriately so that they are not lost or damaged, and so they are at the appropriate location when they are needed. The amount of packaging waste... [Pg.143]
