P Globulin

The table also lists important globulins in blood plasma, with their mass and function. The a- and p-globulins are involved in the transport of lipids (lipoproteins see p. 278), hormones, vitamins, and metal ions. In addition, they provide coagulation factors, protease inhibitors, and the proteins of the complement system (see p. 298). Soluble antibodies (immunoglobulins see p. 300) make up the y-globulin fraction. [Pg.276]

Kidney tumors caused by several different compounds, including 1,4-dichlorobenzene, isophorone, and unleaded petrol, have been found to be both sex dependent and species dependent. Thus, only male rats suffer from oc2-p-globulin nephropathy and renal tubular adenocarcinoma as a result of the accumulation of a compound-protein complex in the epithelial cells of renal proximal tubules (see chap. 6). The synthesis of the protein involved, a2-[i-globulin, is under androgenic control in the male rat. [Pg.149]

Factor migrates in an electrophoretic field between a- and p-globulins. [Pg.170]

The greater association of Cu64 activity with the a2-P-globulin region is already detectable at 2 hours and much more prominent at 5 hours. This recalls the fact that C14-labeled plasma proteins produced by the isolated perfused liver or the intact animal appear only after a lag period of 30 minutes to 1-1/2 hours (25). [Pg.59]

It is in connection with the p-globulin electrophoretic fraction that it is most difficult to resolve clearly the specific role of the liver. In terms of the per cent dose incorporated into the -globulins, the contribution of the liver from a given dose of lysine-C14 is quantitatively considerably larger than that derived from the contribution of the non-hepatic tissues. [Pg.35]

TCII is a 50,000-d p-globulin synthesized in the ileum and the liver. It is the transport protein for recendy absorbed vitamin B12. About 20% of the plasma vitamin B12 is bound to TCII the remainder of the vitamin B12 in plasma is transported by TCI and TCIII, primarily in the form of 5-methylcobalamin. Normal serum contains 0.7-1.5 nmol/L of TCII, which is capable of binding 600-1300 ng of vitamin B12 however, only about 15% of its binding capacity is used at any one time. Unlike TCI and TCIII, the... [Pg.307]

As we know at present, the mucoproteose fraction includes the following materials (1) most of the gastric fucomucins, as well as some of the blood group substances, i.e., most of the neutral polysaccharides of the dissolved mucin fraction linked to their peptide moiety, (2) y-globulin and probably also P-globulin, which pass into the gastric juice from the serum (G16, G42, Hll, H20, H55) and probably account for the presence of mannose in this fraction (Gll), (3) some of the pep-tidic degradation products of serum albumin and visible mucus, which are partly dialyzable (G16, K2), (4) native intrinsic factor, the related primary vitamin Bi2 binder, and tertiary vitamin Bia binder related to the neutral mucosubstances (G14, Ul, U2). [Pg.281]

These are metal-binding proteins. A P-globulin, termed transferrin is capable of combining witii iron, copper and zinc. This protein constitutes approximately 3% of tire total plasma protein. Another example is ceruloplasmin, which contains copper. [Pg.150]
