Fatty acids oxygenated

Oxygenated Fatty Acids A Class of Allelochemicals from Aquatic Plants... [Pg.387]

Allelochemic effects of aquatic macrophytes on algae are discussed. Bloassays of chromatographic fractions from Eleocharls mlcrocarpa Torr. Indicate that oxygenated fatty acids are the causative agents. Methods of Isolation of these materials from aquatic macrophytes and from natural waters are described. Purification and structure determinations show that prominent components of the fraction are C q tri-hydroxycydopentyl and hydroxycydopentenone... [Pg.387]

Autoxidation of unsaturated fatty acids is well known. Modifications of the extraction and separation procedures were made to investigate the possibility that these oxygenated fatty acids (OFAs) arise as artefacts. When exposure to light and air were minimized, no changes were noted in TLC and HPLC. [Pg.390]

Gunstone ct found that separation of saturated and unsaturated fatty acid glycerides by crystallization at -10° is improved by addition of silver nitrate in methanol to complex with the unsaturated components. Morris reports separation of CIS and trans fatty acids and oxygenated fatty acids by thin-layer chromatography on silica gel impregnated with silver nitrate. With untreated silica there was no separation. [Pg.508]

Use of Upases to Isolate Polyunsaturated and Oxygenated Fatty Acids and Form Value-Added Ester Products... [Pg.3179]

Polyunsaturated and oxygenated fatty acids, obtained from triacylglycerols (TAG) of several different plant and animal species, are valuable materials feedstock for value-added products in a variety of industries food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and paints and coatings. The acyl species, their chemical structure, and their most abundant sources are summarized in Table 1. In contrast to inexpensive Cie and Cig saturated and A9-unsaturated acyl groups, such as palmitic (16 0), stearic (18 0), oleic (18 l-9c), linoleic (18 2-9c, 12c), and a-linolenic acid (ALA 18 3-9c, 12c,15c), recovered from the oil of soybean and other common sources, and C4-C16 saturates from palm oil and milk fat, polyunsaturated and oxygenated acids are derived from less common sources, and particularly for polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), are typically present at only 20 0% purity. [Pg.3179]
