Oxygen chemistry derivatives

The General References and two other reviews (17,25) provide extensive descriptions of the chemistry of maleic anhydride and its derivatives. The broad industrial appHcations for this chemistry derive from the reactivity of the double bond in conjugation with the two carbonyl oxygens. [Pg.449]

It is interesting to note that in so many areas of oxygen chemistry, nature uses iron porphyrins for the transport, storage, and utilization of dioxygen and its reduced derivatives. [Pg.106]

Serratose, et al., have succeeded in converting readily available lactone 361 to semi-bullvalene. The scheme, which involves no skeletal rearrangement, is based on diazoketone cyclization chemistry within an oxygenated cyclopentenyl derivative... [Pg.9]

It was first observed by Thiemens et al.4 that stratospheric C02 possesses a large and variable mass-independent isotopic composition. This composition was suggested as deriving from isotopic exchange with Of11)), the product of ozone photolysis.5 6 As later confirmed by rocket-borne collection of stratospheric and mesospheric air, this unique isotopic signature provides an ideal tracer of odd oxygen chemistry of the Earth s upper atmosphere, one of the most important upper atmospheric processes. There are, however, several features that require further measurement (laboratory and atmospheric) and theoretical considerations. [Pg.157]

If the oxidant does not mediate rapid further oxidation of the radical, the latter can be trapped by molecular oxygen ( 1-electron oxidation chemistry). The products resulting from this pathway will incorporate an oxygen atom derived from molecular oxygen. At some particular sites (Cl carbon), the stabilization of a positive charge at the carbon center makes the formation of a carbon-centered cation possible by the release of superoxide anion. In that case, after a one-electron oxidation of a deoxyribose unit, molecular oxygen plays the role of a second oxidant and this pathway becomes similar to a 2-electron oxidation mechanism. [Pg.121]

FIGU RE 4.4 Redox sites, electron transfer paths, and proton channels of CcO. Electrons are derived from cyt c, and delivered to Oj hound in the hinuclear center heme aiATug. Ehotons for oxygen chemistry are supplied via two channels K and D. Putative exit channel for protons, schematically indicated on the diagram, have been identified in recent work. Another measure of the cosmic ray ionization rate would be provided by the observed HD abundances, if the overall deuterium abundance D]/[HJ in interstellar clouds were known. Alternatively, the values of (o derived from the oxygen chemistry can be used to infer DJ/ H from the measured HD column densities. The derived deuterium abundances in the models of vDB are in the range (0.5-2.0)xl0 for the various clouds, consistent with other estimates of the deuterium abundance in the interstellar medium, [D]/[H]=( 1.5 1.0) X 10" (Vidal-Madjar and Gry 1984). The models of the f Per cloud favor the upper part of this range, whereas those of the ( Oph cloud give somewhat lower values, due to the order of magnitude lower HD column density. A similar deuterium abundance for the ( Oph cloud has been obtained by VRA. [Pg.222]

The next several chapters deal with the chemistry of various oxygen containing func tional groups The interplay of these important classes of compounds—alcohols ethers aldehydes ketones carboxylic acids and derivatives of carboxylic acids— IS fundamental to organic chemistry and biochemistry... [Pg.623]

Catenation is well established in organotin chemistry and distannane derivatives can be prepared by standard methods (see Ge, p. 396). The compounds are more reactive than organodiger-manes e.g. Sn2Meg (mp 23°) inflames in air at its bp (182°) and absorbs oxygen slowly at room temperature to give (Me2Sn)20. Typical routes to higher polystannanes are ... [Pg.402]
