Mesoporous glass ("Vycor type") can be produced by a combined heat-treatment and leaching procedure as summarised by Burggraaf and Keizer [78] in an extended overview of synthesis methods. Modification of this process leads to microporous hollow fibres with interesting properties (see Chapter 9). Details of this modification process are not known to this author.

In an altogether different approach to improve the mechanics and introduce superhydrophobic properties, in this chapter, we are presenting work on the synthesis of flexible and superhydrophobic silica aerogels derived from methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) precursors and their usability as efficient sorbents for oil and hydrocarbons [18, 19]. The main objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of synthesis, characterization, and most promising areas of applications.

Two topics of perovskite-type oxides were browed and discussed in this chapter one is the synthesis method and the other is its application in catalysis. Because of the diverse applications of perovskite-type oxides, special properties are usually required depending on the ultimate use, while the desired properties could be achieved by choosing a proper synthesis method. For example, using coprecipitation method could lead to a well crystallized stmcture, while by a nanocasting method perovskite with high surface area could be achieved. Thus, an overview of synthesis method for perovskite-type oxides reported in the publications was made for better understanding the advantage of each method.
