When it comes to documentation, a component description that makes clear the essential vision of your design will help future maintained understand it quickly. Their short-order updates will more likely cohere with the rest of the design, thereby giving your brilliant ideas a longer life. For users of the component (whether end users or other programmers), you don t want to show how the thing works inside but only what they can do with it.

Since software faults have a big Common Cause Failure (CCF) potential, it is sometimes imderstand to be a part of the hardware CCF of Central Processing Unit (CPU) or other programmable device. As an example of a useful Web service, assume that an individual has written a Web application to select the best automobile insurance to purchase. The application would return key information about each insurance company and its rates. Other programmers could develop similar applications, but there would be differences in some of the details and the cost for accessing the application. An enterprising smartphone developer could then create an application to assist people in buying a new car, and as a part of the interface, display the automobile insurance information. The smartphone developer could insert the individual s automobile insurance Web service information, or that of a competitor, in the automobile purchase interface. The smartphone user would see the auto insurance data displayed, with no idea that the information was coming from the first individual s application. 

Other programmable controllers used in machinery safety-related systems. In recognition of this, CEN is in the process of trying to map the principles of the standard into a new machinery sector version of lEC 61508, currently identified as prEN 62016. It is yet to be seen how this new standard, when it is eventually published, will relate to EN 954-1. 

ASME Code and other programme inspections are valid and effective for verifying component structural integrity. These inspections are performed unless an exemption was authorized by the appropriate regulatory body on a plant specific basis.
