Other performance measures

Blends of polymers can pose their own unique problems as well. An example is where colorants exhibit preferential dispersion to one of the polymer phases. The other polymer phase remains virtually uncolored. Macroscopically, this may not be a problem as the molded part appears uniformly colored. But even at this level, if wall thickness is very thin, color striations may become apparent. Other performance measures may be adversely affected as well. At the microscopic level, since all of the colorant is dispersed in one phase, impact strength and other properties may be reduced at pigment concentrations that are much lower than expected. This would primarily occur in blends where the colorant prefers the resin phase that provides the toughness to the blend. 

A related initiative to provide ongoing measurement of the quality of care provided by health systems are the ORYX indicators. ORYX is intended to integrate the use of outcomes and other performance measurement data into the accreditation process. Performance measures are expected to be applicable across the accredited health care organizations with the evolution of core performance measures applicable to each accreditation program. The initial four core measurement areas will be for hospitals and will focus on acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, community-acquired pneumonia, and pregnancy and related conditions. Hospitals are expected to collect data that will allow assessment of patient care based on the standards. The ORYX standards for acute myocardial infarction in Table 21.3 reflect the focus on medications and how pharmacists can impact their organizations performance. ... 

Perceived quality This is another subjective measure related to the reputation of product or a service. This reputation may be based on past experience and partial information, but in many cases the customer s decisions are based on perceived queility because exact information about the other performance measures Usted above is not readily available.

Why these Quite simply these measures are what are important to analysts, owners of company stock, and those who invest in or lend money to companies. If it is significant to external constituents, then it is important to the company executives. By no means is this an all-inclusive list. Several other performance measures are considered, but those listed are the most common. No single metric can tell the whole story however, a core of key performance indicators can provide insight into the financial health of a company. 

Benchmarking is conducted with the use of ratios and other performance measures. Without understanding ratio and ratio analysis, benchmarking is a futile exercise.
