Other Organometallic Complexes

The alkynyl-metal (metal-acetyhde) complex is one of the best building blocks for organometallic dendrimers, since it has some advantages compared to other organometallic complexes [18]. Most of the metal-acetylide complexes are thermally robust and stable, even when exposed to air and moisture. Metal-acetylide complexes are fairly accessible in high yields by well-established synthetic methodology [19]. These features are essential to the construction of dendrimers. 

Alkoxy carbene complexes are useful starting compounds for other organometallic complexes,1 5 particularly methylidyne (carbyne) complexes.16 By modification of the coordinated (noncarbene) ligands or of the carbene ligand, other carbene complexes can be synthesized. The use of carbene complexes in organic syntheses has been reviewed recently.17 18... 

Following the aforementioned pioneering work, many other organometallic complexes of nickel(II) were prepared using different synthetic procedures. Complexes containing one molecule of tertiary phosphine were prepared using methods similar to that reported in equations (142) and (143) and Scheme 13.1193-11951219-1223 All of these diamagnetic compounds have the square planar structure exemplified by (155).1193... 

In this representation, each bond pair is a delocalized covalent two-electron bond, written as a HL-type bond. The VB method that deals with fragment orbitals (FO—VB) is particularly useful in high symmetry cases, for example, ferrocene and other organometallic complexes. Some of its merits are further illustrated at the end of this chapter.

Empirical correlations have been established between pre-edge band intensity and coordination charge (derived from MO valence-bond concepts) (67, 224, 312) or the composition of molecular antibonding orbitals, corresponding to bound states (243). Local orbital symmetry considerations explain simply the intensity of the K pre-edge of first-row transition-metal complexes (28,101,256,261,270) and the detailed edges in a variety of other organometallic complexes (112, 258). 

Organomercurials are useful reagents for the synthesis of other organometallic complexes. Direct transmetallation is the most common approach and a large number of main group and transition metal organometallic complexes have been prepared in this way from organomercurials.

Other organometallic complexes have served as alkene acceptors for ketyls generated by Sml2- Thus ( / -diene)Fe(CO)3 complexes have been employed in ketyl cyclizations [86], leading to stereocontrolled syntheses of cyclopentanols and cyclo-hexanols (Eq. 73).
