Compounds Containing Phosphorus, Sulfur, and Fluorine 1. Phosphorus Thiofluoride, PSF3 [Pg.128]

Thorpe and Rodgers (299) (1888) produced phosphorus thiofluoride by heating a mixture of PbF2 and P2S or a mixture of PbF2, S, and P. They also used the reaction [Pg.128]

Others have used modifications of the first of the above procedures (193, 313). The Swarts reaction involving PSC13 or PSBr3 and SbF3 has also been used (18, 22). [Pg.128]

PSF3 is a colorless gas which burns in air. The products are said to be PF3, S02, and, probably, POF3 (299). Another author gives PF6, P206, and S02 as the products (211). Phosphorus thiofluoride reacts slowly with water and more rapidly with a solution of sodium hydroxide (183, 299). The hydrolysis goes by steps giving HF and HjS (or F and S= or HS ) and phosphoric acids (or their anions) such as those shown in the hydrolysis scheme proposed by Lange and Askitopoulos (183), [Pg.128]
