A further critical factor is the actives level and performance quality of DCAs. Thus the risks of scale deposition can be reduced by improving the quality of DCA, increasing the polymer actives level, and reducing all other critical factors (where possible). 

With the lowering of the US arsenic drinking water standard (MCL) from 50 to 10 pg L-1 (Appendix E), water treatment facilities may have had to modify their procedures to comply with the new standard. The examples above have clearly shown how P-gp efflux can influence absorption. However, it is important to note that P-gp efflux activity does not always dictate these outcomes to a compound s absorption profile. Absorption is a highly complex multifactorial process in which P-gp can play a part. The magnitude of the effect of P-gp efflux activity on a compound s absorption profile ultimately depends on the P-gp activity in combination with other critical factors such as solubility, permeability, and metabolism. 

As with all products, truly successful therapeutic agents are those that meet all the customers needs. In today s and tomorrow s world, the concept that all that is needed is for medicines to meet the scientific requirements of being effective and safe is essentially an anachronism. It is not just the scientific factors and customers that must be satisfied. Table 2.1 shows that the two other critical factors or influences outlined in Figure 2.1 produce many more customers to be served.
