Some systems are designed to sort the specimens into racks for transfer to particular laboratory sections or analyzers as described above. These systems (AI Scientific, Aloka, Olympus, Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, and Tecan) sort the aliquot and original tubes into racks for manual transport to analyzers or lab sections. In some cases the racks maybe specific for a specific analyzer, eliminating additional handling of tubes. 

Any H2O2 diffusing back into the sample chamber is destroyed by catalase to prevent interference with the analysis. Determinations maybe performed on 25 (xL of plasma, serum, or whole blood. Recently, we adapted the Ortho Clinical Diagnostics lipase slide test [29], a dry chemistry test system used in clinical biochemistry to measure the lipase activity in human serum for the determination of the lipase activity in pancreatic extracts. The substrate, l-oleyl-2,3-diacetylglycerol, and the ancillary reagents are fixed in a multilayered film (Fig. 7). Upon addition of a lipase solution, the insoluble substrate becomes emulsified. 

Many IS Es based on solid or Kquid membranes and ion-selective FETs possess sufficiently small Kij values (Eq. 1) toward common interferents, and have been developed into commercial benchtop analyzers that allow the measurement of Na+, K+, Ca +, Cl , HC03, and other ions, in instruments that are designed solely for IS E measurements or in combination with other integrated devices (such as amper-ometric sensors and spectrophotometers) to measure other parameters [7]. Applications of these devices to blood gas analysis have been reviewed recently [81].
