Oriental Rugs

Fred was a backgammon player, a fisherman at Flat Head Lake, a collector of Oriental rugs, and our good and respected friend. His presence will be missed, but his memory and his contribution will live on through his many friends and students. 

The Athenaeum was a luxurious faculty club, which admitted graduate students who associated across disciplinary lines and mixed with world famous faculty members. The Athenaeum was built in Mediterranean style with stone, stucco, red tile, much ornamentation, and marble on the ground-level floor and staircase. The main room appeared to be almost as large as a tennis court, most of the floor was covered with a huge single oriental rug, and the high walls were paneled with polished mahogany. At the Athenaeum, every male diner was required to wear a coat and tie.

Sheet molding compound (SMC) consists of randomly oriented chopped fibers in a matrix of resin and filler. SMC is produced in the continuous manner shown in Figure 1-16. Note that the polyethylene film protects the roller system from getting gummed up with the resin-filler paste. The rug-like rolls of SMC are then used in compression molding machines to create large parts such as the sides of cars and trucks.

Devices must be rugged. They should be designed not to break if they are to fall on the floor during a medical emergency. One of the leading experts in adsorption cycle enhancement or intensification is Professor Bob Critoph of Warwick University, who has been developing innovative adsorption cycle chillers, in particular, over many years. He points out that with fluids used such as silica gel and water, where one needed 1 kg of adsorbent for a SOW cooling duty, there is a need for some intensification . The basic cycle does have some advantages however, it is rugged, not sensitive to orientation and the regenerative cycle has a good COP.
