TABLE A.1 A list of the more important current journals that publish original papers in organic chemistry, listed in alphabetical order of Chemical Abstracts abbreviations, which are indicated in boldface. Also given are the year of founding, number of issues per year as of 1991, and whether the journal primarily publishes papers (P), communications (C). or both ... [Pg.1241]

Reactions. CASREACr File is a chemical reaction database containing over 118.500 records with rcacliun informalion derived from documents covered in the Organic Section of Chemical Abstracts. The tile is available from STN. [Pg.831]

Use of systematic nomenclature is a bit like energy conservation—we all recognize it is necessary, but we would just as soon the start be made after we are dead. The phenomenal growth of organic chemistry during the past decade and the switch by the indexes of Chemical Abstracts to use much more systematic nomenclature suggests that the right time is now. The approach we will take in this book to the nomenclature problem is described in more detail in Chapter 3 (pp. 49-51). [Pg.1621]

Nitrations of aromatic compounds represent one of the most important classes or organic reactions. However, although a lot of data has been collected in relation to simple substituted benzenes, and the reactions have been subjected to quantitative and theoretical studies, the nitration of phenyl heterocycles has been much less studied in a systematic way. This chapter has attempted to bring together as much information as possible on the topic through a manual search of Chemical Abstracts and recent literature. [Pg.260]

For the organic chemist, knowledge of, and access to, the more familiar components of the printed products of Chemical Abstracts is still desirable CA abstracts CA Volume Indexes and CA Collective Indexes CA Index Gnide CAS Source Index (CASSI) Registry Handbook Number Section the Ring Systems Handbook and CA Selects. [Pg.2]

This is the electronic form of Chemical Abstracts and consequently constitutes the largest database available that relates to synthetic organic chemistry. The database aUows the searching of Chemical Abstracts back to 1957 (with a limited number of records prior to this time), although complete retrieval of bibliographical and abstract information is only possible back to 1970. It features powerful keyword and graphical search facilities and is an essential resource for full-time organic chemists. [Pg.269]

Rule 5. The use of multiplicative prefixes and parentheses will follow organic and Chemical Abstracts practices. The British are not as rigid on this matter as the Americans. [Pg.157]

Though a search dealing with an organic compound may start with the formula index of Chemical Abstracts, while one on an industrial engineering problem may begin in the Engineering Societies Library in New York City, the same basic principle of searching is involved—namely, key terms are looked up in the most appropriate sources. [Pg.7]

Another useful publication issued by the Chemical Abstracts Service is Directions for Abstractors and Section Editors of Chemical Abstracts This 52-page, indexed booklet contains much information about the nature, style, and form of abstracts and about nomenclature, spelling, forms, and abbreviations. While these directions are intended primarily for the producers and editors of abstracts, they have proved their helpfulness to users of abstracts and to chemical writing in general. They contain special sections devoted to abstracting (1) organic papers and (2) patents. Copies can be obtained from the Chemical Abstracts Service for 25 cents each. [Pg.39]
