Organic reaction mechanisms activation energy

Radiotracer methods are the methods of choice for investigation of reaction mechanisms. They have also found broad application for determination of kinetic data of chemical reactions such as reaction rates, activation energies and entropies. Only a few examples can be given of the multitude of applications in organic, inorganic and physical chemistry and in biochemistry. [Pg.359]

Fundamental advances are offered by the knowledge of energy states and their electronic distributions in organic compounds and the relationship of these to reaction mechanisms. The development, for example, of even an empirical and approximate general scheme for the estimation of activation energies would indeed be most notable. [Pg.8]

The importance of solvation on reaction surfaces is evident in striking medium dependence of reaction rates, particularly for polar reactions, and in variations of product distributions as for methyl formate discussed above and of relative reactivities (18,26). Thus, in order to obtain a molecular level understanding of the influence of solvation on the energetics and courses of reactions, we have carried out statistical mechanics simulations that have yielded free energy of activation profiles (30) for several organic reactions in solution (11.18.19.31. ... [Pg.211]

Super or near-critical water is being studied to develop alternatives to environmentally hazardous organic solvents. Venardou et al. utilized Raman spectroscopy to monitor the hydrolysis of acetonitrile in near-critical water without a catalyst, and determined the rate constant, activation energy, impact of experimental parameters, and mechanism [119,120]. Widjaja et al. tracked the hydrolysis of acetic anhydride to form acetic acid in water and used BTEM to identify the pure components and their relative concentrations [121]. The advantage of this approach is that it does not use separate calibration experiments, but stiU enables identihcation of the reaction components, even minor, unknown species or interference signals, and generates relative concentration profiles. It may be possible to convert relative measurements into absolute concentrations with additional information. [Pg.219]

These, and similar data for other systems, demonstrate the tremendous potential that the MICR technique has for the qualitative elucidation of potential energy surfaces of relatively complex organic reactions. Once implementation of the quadrupolar excitation technique has been effected to relax ions to the cell center, the technique will become even more powerful, in that the determination of highly accurate unimolecular decomposition lifetimes of chemically activated intermediates will also become possible. No other technique offers such a powerful array of capabilities for the study of unimolecular dissociation mechanisms and rates. [Pg.70]
