Organic Growth screen

The final screen that we applied to the sixty-two snrviving companies was our mergers and acquisitions (M A) screen. ITere onr pnrpose was to eliminate companies that prodnced a material part of their growth during 1997-2002 by acquisitions and not throngh internal, core, or organic growth. [Pg.116]

Headworks The facilities where wastewater enters a wastewater treatment plant. The headworks may consist of bar screens, comminutors, a wet well and pumps. Heterotroph A microorganism which uses organic matter for energy and growth. HRT Hours of Retention Time. [Pg.616]

Once methanol-using organisms had been isolated they were screened in small-volume shake-flask cultures to determine their ability to grow in methanol-minimal-medium (such as Medium B described in the previous section) to produce high yields at high growth rates. Optimum growth temperatures and pHs were also determined. [Pg.91]

Two strains were isolated and purified, Pseudomonas sp. CDT-4, and Nocardia aster-oides, CDT-4b (ATCC 202160 and 202161, respectively). The microbes were passed through a multiple screen, first to allow growth on dibenzothiophene (DBT) as a sole source of sulfur, and then on fossil fuels, to identify organisms capable of desulfurization without metabolizing the DBT phenyl ring structures. N. asteroides sp. CDT-4b was found to metabolize DBT. The Pseudomonas species was found to utilize trace levels of sulfate from media and was found to be incapable of growth on DBT as a sole source of sulfur. However, the co-culture could remove more than 20% sulfur, with supplementation of a second sulfur-free carbon source. [Pg.296]

The SHG active compounds found in Tables II-VIII are just a small fraction of the hundreds of substances we have screened by the powder technique. Of the active compounds only another small fraction will provide crystals of size and quality as is required for optical application. A program in crystal growth as thorough as the effort which has gone into synthesis must be instituted in order to take full advantage of these materials. Overall, it will suffice to say that the promising nonlinear properties observed from such a small fraction of all the possible organic compounds bodes very well for future endeavor. [Pg.77]
