Uses Solvent for coating compositions plasticizer surface-active agents organic synthesis. 

Uses Solvent for nitrocellulose, synthetic resins, rubber, lacquers coating compositions inks and stains organic synthesis. 

To achieve the main process requirements (ability to be applied by different methods by hand, spray, electropaint), and to provide the necessary decorative, physical, and mechanical properties, organic solvents are used in concentrations up to of about 50% to modify the viscosity and other rheological characteristics of the some polymer compositions. During the application and formation of the coating, the solvents evaporate into the atmosphere as pollutants. This serious disadvantage of formulations based on the use of solvents as "intermediate" carriers has provided the incentive to develop polymer compositions and application technologies which yield the required rheological characteristics either without solvents, or at least with low concentrations of them. 

Lacquer. A coating composition that is based on synthetic thermoplastic film-forming material dissolved in organic solvent that dries primarily by solvent evaporation. Ts pical lacquers include those based on nitrocellulose, other cellulose derivatives, vinyl resins, acrylic resins, and the like.

Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) porous supports coated with cellulose [92] were commercialized by Dow (ETNA membranes). PVDF is soluble only in a few organic solvents such as dimethyl acetamide. Cellulose is very stable in organic and aqueous solvents. However, because of its low solubility, preparing cellulose membranes is not a trivial task. In November 1997, Ferrari (France) invited Solvay to help them to solve a problem of recycling PVC coated textile for light mobile structures, especially ones used for shortterm applications (advertising). The Vinyloop is aphysical recycling process making use of an organic solvent to separate the PVC compound from the other materials in a PVC composite.
