Organic boron compounds

The fungicidal effect of organic boron compounds is under investigation. An active substance worth mentioning is triphenyl boron which forms coordination compounds with nitrogen bases (ammonia, triethylamine, pyridine, etc.) (40). It is effective against soil fungi (Pythium spp., Rhizoctonia spp.) (Birnbaum and Anderson, 1964).

Organic boron compounds reportedly have some antiknock effectiveness in addition to altering combustion-chamber deposit effects (35, 46). Other compounds showing antiknock properties have recently been reviewed (50). 

Use Synthesis of organic boron compounds and metal borohydrides, polymerization catalyst for ethylene, fuel for air-breathing engines and rockets, reducing agent, doping agent for p-type semiconductors. 

BjHg, a colourless, volatile compound that is soluble in ether boiling point —92.5 C, melting point—165.5"C can be used to produce pentaboranc and decaboranc, proposed for use as rocket fuels also used to syn e-size organic boron compounds. Also known as boroethane diboron hexahydride. 

Titanium half-sandwich complexes of cyclopentadiene and substituted cyclopentadienes (Cp ) activated with MAO or organic boron compounds especially show a high styrene polymerization activity. 

The method does not yield accurate results in the description of the compounds that contain neighboring heteroatoms with electron lone pairs, the organic boron compounds etc. Since organic compounds with fixed valence of the atoms that form them are used for the parametrization of this method, it underestimates, as a rule, the stability of nonclassical skeleton and polyhedral structures.

Among the latest additives (1957) are methyl cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl of the Ethyl Corporation, and an organic boron compound of the Standard Oil Company of Ohio. The boron compound in small amounts (0.008—0.03 per cent) not only reduces combustion-zone deposits and surface ignition but also increases the effectiveness of tetraethyllead.
