Optical properties tunable emission color

The pursuit for new phosphors has recently focused on compounds that form complex solid solutions, which provide a mechanism to tune the luminescent properties. The emission color of the binary system— Mi xM x)2Si04 Eu (M/M = Mg, Ca Sr, Ba)—can be mned from violet to red-orange, and the thermal stability is dependent on the components and ratio of M/M. The bond distance of M/M = O and the volume of the unit cell greatly affects the optical properties of this system. A longer M/M = O bond distance and large unit cell provide a weaker crystal field, which results in a blue-shift emission. Moreover, a distortion of the crystal structure can also provide tunable optical properties of the phosphor [3]. 

Apart from the tunable color emission covering the full visible range, there are several other aspects supporting the interest in PTs for PLEDs. PTs are examples of classical conjugated polymers with intrinsic one-dimensionality of the polymer chain. Other examples that focus more on the optical aspects of nanocomposites include UV absorption stability enhancement, formation of translucent nanocomposites with tunable color, dichroic materials, low emissivity systems controlling energy loss, near-infrared absorbing additives for laser engraving and welding, luminescent materials, and refractive index adjrrst-ment. Such materials can be expected to show additional property improvements with additional research.
