Fiber-optic sensors based on controlled-release polymers provide sustained release of indicating reagents over long periods. This technique allows irreversible chemistries to be used in the design of sensors for continuous measurements. The sensor reported in this paper is based on a fluorescence energy transfer immunoassay. The sensor was cycled through different concentrations of antigen continuously for 30 hours. [Pg.312]

In addition to microelectronic and optical applications, polymers deposited using thermal and plasma assisted CVD are increasingly being used in several biomedical applications as well. For instance, drug particles microencapsulated with parylenes provide effective control release activity. Plasma polymerized tetrafiuoroethylene, parylenes and ethylene/nitrogen mixtures can be used as blood compatible materials. An excellent review of plasma polymers used in biomedical applications can be found in reference 131. [Pg.281]

Metal containing polymers are useful for a wide range of applications including analysis and catalysis, optical and electronic devices, colorants and coatings, structural composites, ceramics, controlled-released medicaments, and biocides. ... [Pg.11]
