Ophthalmic preparations lotions

Included in the FDA Inactive Ingredients Guide (dental solutions TV injections ophthalmic preparations oral capsules and tablets otic suspensions topical creams, emulsions, lotions, ointments, and solutions and vaginal preparations). Included in nonparenteral medicines licensed in the UK. Included in the Canadian List of Acceptable Non-medicinal Ingredients. 

GRAS listed. Accepted for use as a food additive in Europe. Included in the EDA Inactive Ingredients Guide (injections ophthalmic preparations oral capsules, solutions, and tablets). Included in parenteral (intravenous infusions and injections) and nonparenteral medicines (ear drops eye lotions oral capsules, chewable tablets, effervescent powders, effervescent tablets, granules, and tablets suppositories and suspensions) licensed in the UK. 

Used as a cathartic, particularly in the treatment of food poisoning and in evacuation of the bowel before X-ray examination as a solvent or vehicle in some parenteral and ophthalmic preparations as an ingredient in lipsticks, hair-grooming products, ointments, creams, lotions, transparent soaps, suppository bases, and others. 

Topical, Ophthalmic, and Otic Preparations Clarity, homogeneity, pH, resus-pendability (for lotions), consistency, viscosity, microbial bioburden, and water loss should be tested. For ophthalmic and otic products additional attributes should include sterility, particulate matter, and extractables. 

Topical preparations for the treatment of rosacea include metronidazole 0.75% or 1% cream, 0.75% gel, or lotion. None of these preparations is FDA-approved for ophthalmic use, but they have been beneficial fiar some patients.
