The simplest unit employing vacuum fractionation is that designed by Canadian Badger for Dominion Tar and Chemical Company (now Rttgers VFT Inc.) at Hamilton, Ontario (13). In this plant, the tar is dehydrated in the usual manner by heat exchange and injection into a dehydrator. The dry tar is then heated under pressure in an oil-fired hehcal-tube heater and injected directly into the vacuum fractionating column from which a benzole fraction, overhead fraction, various oil fractions as side streams, and a pitch base product are taken. Some alterations were made to the plant in 1991, which allows some pitch properties to be controlled because pitch is the only product the distillate oils are used as fuel. [Pg.336]

A 250 kilowatt atmospheric system is planned for a Toronto, Ontario, Canada site. The system will be operated by Ontario Power Technologies (formerly Ontario Hydro). The unit will supply 145 kilowatts of heat to the site heating system. Electric efficiency is expected to be about 47% (LHV). Operation of the combined heat and power system is expected in late 2001. [Pg.34]

A. (Alex) Brennenstiihl worked for many years on corrosion problems of defense equipment in the Ministry of Defence in the United Kingdom. In 1981 he moved to Canada, but remained in the defense industry. In 1987 he joined the Corrosion and Tritium Technology Section of Ontario Hydro in Canada, after which his principal interest became concerned with corrosion of heat exchangers and steam generators. [Pg.1011]
