Onion capacity

The experiment with 0.5 g/mL of erode extracts of different parts of Allium plants (bulb, green leaf, white stalk) showed the inhibition of acrosin and trypsin activities, mostiy the red onion and garlic extracts. These results demonstrated that spermicidal effect of Allium extracts is determined also by their capacity of protease inhibition. The red onion extract shows the higher antioxidant capacity and a very low cytotoxicity. 

A commercial demonstration facility for irradiation of onions having a processing capacity of 10 tons/hr was reported in 1999 to be under construction in Nasik District, Maharashtra State, India [23].

Bulb onions can be grown on a wide range of mineral and peat soils provided that they are well drained, have a good available-water capacity, a pH of 6.5 or mote and can provide a good seedbed. Bulb onions eanbe grown in marty parts of the UK, but do best in the eastern and south-eastern counties where it is often drier at harvesting time, which helps promote skin quality.
