The closed loop observed in Figure 3.5 demonstrates the reversibility of the process, which is a great advantage for practical application of these novel materials for on-board hydrogen storage.

There have been many review articles on metal hydrides, and a few of the more recent ones are referenced here. This review will attempt to cover only fairly recent studies on high hydrogen capacity hydrides that (1) have been demonstrated to be reversible or, at the least, partially reversible and (b) have the potential for exhibiting other properties (e.g., kinetics, operating temperatures) suitable for on-board hydrogen storage applications. This area of materials research and development is very active at the present time, so that it is likely that not all of the relevant work will be included. The author apologizes for any omissions.
