Oligosaccharides origin

To better understand the critical role of oligosaccharide-receptor interactions and their molecular mechanisms through the cluster-effect, and thus access optimized synthetic ligands, several research groups have shown creativity in proposing original multivalent platforms that could allow for tailored valencies, dimensions, and epitope orientations.

Besides the applications in the above-mentioned methodologies, trichloroaceti-midate chemistry has also been used in the past years to construct various oligosaccharides containing 1,2-cis linkages [456-465]. In some examples, notably by Kong and coworkers [460], 1,2-cis stereoselectivity was influenced by the glycosidic bonds originally present in either the donor or the acceptor. 

A linker originally designed for solid-phase synthesis of peptides is the backbone amide linker (11) (BAL), this anchoring approach has now been extended to the combinatorial synthesis of diverse amide [31], hydroxamate [32], oligosaccharide [33] and heterocyclic small molecule libraries [34-36].
