In helping to create a consensus set of guidelines, a number of individual and groups provided valuable assistance and review. These include Ted Krauthammer of Penn State, chairman of ACI committee 370 (Short Duration Dynamic and Vibratory Load Effects), Paul Mlakar of Jaycor, chairman of the ASCE Task Committee on Physical Security, and Quentin Baker of Wilfred Baker Engineering. Reviewers included Brad Otis of Shell Oil Company, Al Wusslcr of El Paso Natural Gas Company, and Eve Hinman of Failure Analysis Associates. [Pg.3]

Dynamics, namely, the mechanism of chemical reactivity, was not the only conceptual core to chemistry. We might focus as well on the concepts of chemical "species" and chemical "constitution," and indeed these concepts figure in the history that follows. However, the dynamics of matter was a kernel at the heart of chemistry, with varying paces of growth. It constituted both disputed and common territory for practitioners of chemical philosophy and natural philosophy. More recently, it provided a point of controversy and an area of compromise for practitioners of the disciplines of physics and chemistry. Thus, the dynamics of matter is a theme providing especially important insights into the relations between chemistry and physics as intellectual systems, at the same time that the social dynamics of individuals and groups also helps to explain disciplinary development.8... [Pg.23]

Race politics can only proceed from a racialized sense of the social order—an understanding that this or that race shall work toward this or that aim. In this sense the nation s first naturalization law, in 1790, represented race politics par excellence, as did its drastic revision in 1924. The former proceeded from an assumption that only white persons were truly fit for the rigors of republican self-government the latter, from a revised estimation that, whoops, only Nordics were fit after all. But race politics itself also holds the power to generate a racial order of its own the political mobilization of individuals and groups around a racially posed question can itself exert influence upon existing patterns of race-consciousness and racial salience. [Pg.270]

This chapter considers (a) different types of individual and group treatment programmes, (b) assessment and clinical decision-making,... [Pg.92]

TRIZ is a problem solving method that was developed by Genrich Altshuller over a forty-year period in the former Soviet Union [C-20], it has many devotees, used in many major companies and there is an on-line journal devoted to the topic [C-21], The acronym is derived from the Russian for Theory of Inventive Problem Solving. It is very different from the other creativity techniques described above, in that it operates via a study of patterns of problems and solutions and not by the spontaneous creativity of individuals and groups. It was based on the analysis of over 1.5 million patents, since extended to 2.8 million, to discover patterns that predict breakthrough solutions to problems. [Pg.176]

To gain synergy, nurture people, encourage interactions, utilizing diversity. Draw on ct hilitics of individuals and groups. Brainstorming is eommon. [Pg.238]

Blending is a reshuffling process involving the random movement of individual and groups of particles. Three mechanisms by which blending processes can occur are diffusion, convection, and shear (Fig. 1) (1,2). Diffusion is the redistribution of individual particles by their random movement relative to one another. It is often referred to as micro mixing in the literature, because it addresses the blending process on an individual particle basis. Examples of where diffusion can occur include ... [Pg.123]

An additional understanding of individual and group variations is gained if the individual coefficients of variation (CVs) for urinary iodine from Figure 44.1 are added to the individual mean values of urinary iodine content from Figure 44.2, spread out side-by-side. This produces Figure 44.4, in which the iodine contents of the 12 monthly spot urine samples are... [Pg.423]

People are automonized the ever complex system of power we are engaged in offers up numerous options for individualization, for self-realization for an autonomous building of personal and collective identities (because) the system must improve the autonomy of individuals and groups and their capacity for becoming effective terminals of complex informational networks (Melucci, 1984 827). [Pg.22]

The responsibilities of individuals and groups of individuals who participate in the EIA process vary. In each case, the roles should be explicitly delineated, and the procedure to be followed should be understood by all the players. [Pg.13]

Corrosion management is cross-functional in any organization, and various roles in the corrosion management system are undertaken by a variety of individuals and groups in different departments and their contracted bodies. [Pg.679]

The product of individual and group values, attitudes, perceptions, competencies, and patterns of behavior that determine the commitment to, and the style and proficiency of, an organization s health and safety management, (p. 3)... [Pg.2]
