Of 2-acetamido - 2 - deoxy - d - galactose

Vercellotti et al. (65) studied the rates of / -elimination for O-benzyl ethers of O-glycosyl-N-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-L-serine and L-threonine methyl esters in non-aqueous solvents using various bases. The corresponding acetyl derivatives of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose were also included. Generally, these substances were highly reactive, but the nature of the solvent and the base type were influencing factors. Thus, no elimination occurred in benzene when trimethylamine was used as base. [Pg.241]

Borohydride reduction of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose affords 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactitol,219 whereas oxidation of the benzyl 2-(N-benzyloxycarbonyl)amino or-D-glycoside with oxygen in the presence of platinum oxide, followed by hydrogenolysis of the blocking groups, yields... [Pg.262]

Vinogradov, E., Korenevsky, A., Beveridge, T.J. The structure of the rough-type lipooligosaccharide from Shewanella oneidensis MR-1, containing 8-amino-8-deoxy-Kdo and an open-chain form of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose. Carbohydr Res 338 (2003) 1991-1997. [Pg.98]

Pere and coworkers investigated the circular dichroic spectrum of Dolichos lectin in the presence and absence of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose.583 The far-ultraviolet, c.d. spectrum of Dolichos lectin displayed weak, negative bands at 217 and 230 nm, with a positive band at 197 nm. By analogy to the spectrum of con A, whose complete, three-dimensional structure is known, the authors concluded that the Dolichos lectin has a preponderance of the aperiodic, bent structure stabilized by hydrophobic interactions, and a significant content of... [Pg.230]

The rapid formation of one mole of formaldehyde when one mole of the ethyl 1-thio-a-D-glucoside of Schneider and Sepp is oxidized with a 5-molar excess of periodate provided evidence for the furanoid ring in this compound, and the 2-molar uptake of oxidant indicated cleavage between C-5 and C-6, and, probably, between C-2 and C-3. Further oxidation, presumably at the sulfur atom, occurred on oxidation for longer than one hour. Similar results were observed with ethyl 1-thio-a-D-galactofuranoside and with ethyl 1-thioglycosides of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose. ... [Pg.147]

Essentially similar results have been obtained by Eylar and co-workers " on the biosynthesis of bovine submaxillary mucin. The enzyme is firmly bound to a membrane solubilization by Triton X-100 results in a large increase in enzymic activity." The enzyme was purified by gel filtration, and its properties were studied. Among various substances studied, the only one (besides carbohydrate-free mucins) that was active as the acceptor of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose was a basic protein, called encephalitogen, isolated from bovine, spinal-cord myelin. ... [Pg.459]

The cell walls of Streptococcus pneumoniae contain a teichoic acid (C polysaccharide) composed of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose, 2-acetamido-4-amino-2,4,6-trideoxy-D-hexose, ribitol phosphate, choline phosphate, and D-glucose. From the results of periodate oxidation and methylation analysis, together with an examination of the n.m.r. spectra, the structure (1) has been proposed. It is speculated that the C-3 hydroxy-group of the chain terminal diaminotrideoxy-D-hexose unit is glycosylated with isomaltose. [Pg.274]

The capsular polysaccharide antigen of Neisseria meningitidis serogroup 29-e, composed of equimolar amounts of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose and 3-deoxy-D-wawio-octulosonic acid (KDO), has been identified, using a combination of chemical and n.m.r. spectroscopic techniques, as a linear polysaccharide having alternative sequences of the two residues (16). ... [Pg.269]

The enzymic defect of Morquio s disease is attributed to the absence of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-galactose 6-sulphate sulphatase. Extracts of fibroblasts from patients with the disease exhibit normal levels of 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucose 6-sulphate sulphatose and thus remove sulphate from 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-D-glucose 6-sulphate residues at the non-reducing ends of keratan sulphate. [Pg.328]
