Ocimum volatile oils

Juniperus communis berry oil is a very good mosquito repellent. Ocimum volatile oils including camphor, 1,8-cineole, methyl eugenol, limonene, myrcene, and thymol strongly repelled mosquitoes (Regnault-Roger, 1997). [Pg.659]

Chemical diversity is of special interest if on genus or species level both terpenes and phenylpropenes can be found in the essential oil. Most Lamiaceae preferentially accumulate mono- and sesquiterpenes in their volatile oils, but some genera produce oils also rich in phenylpropenes, among these Ocimum sp. and Perilla sp. [Pg.50]

R = CH3, CioHi002, Mr 162.19, 6pioi.3kPa 261.9 °C, df 1.0911, ng 1.5766, occurs in essential oils, mostly as the trans isomer. It is the main component of oils isolated from Alpinia species (content up to 80%) and Ocimum canum varieties (>50%). It has also been identified as a volatile aroma component of cinnamon and strawberries. [Pg.129]
