The routine patch testing of 800 consecutive patients in Barcelona resulted in a diagnosis of occupational contact dermatitis for 72 persons. Metal workers, with 19 cases of occupational dermatosis, and hairdressers, with 17 cases, were the most common of 13 occupations associated with occupational dermatosis. With five cases of occupational dermatosis, bakers and pastry makers ranked fourth (Serra-Baldrich et al. 1995). Nethercott and Holness (1989) found ten bakers with occupational contact dermatitis among 1346 cases of suspected contact dermatitis in Toronto. [Pg.817]

More recent data from Singapore [20] shows that of all the 633 cases of occupational dermatosis seen at an occupational dermatoses clinic over a 5-year period from 1990 to 1995, 149 (23.5%) were from the electronics industry. Of these, 137 (91.9%) were due to contact dermatitis, and data is given listing the... [Pg.656]

There are only a few reports on the prevalence of dermatitis among professionals exposed to paints. Pirila (1947) was the first to investigate paint-factory workers, painters, polishers and varnishers in the mid-1940s. The study population consisted of 1142 Finnish workers, of whom 103 had an occupational dermatosis. Within a period of 1 year, 10.7% of the paint workers and 3.7% of the painters had had contact dermatitis. In the 1950s Schwartz et al. (1957) estimated that dermatitis among painters constitutes about 3% of all compensated cases of occupational dermatoses, and is most frequent among painters in the building trade. [Pg.666]
