Occultism, defined

Psychotomimetic drags can be defined as chemical agents that reliably and dose-dependently induce a psychosis, often including hallucinations and delusions in normal individuals. Implicit in this term is a mimicking of naturally occulting psychosis. 

Time is a fundamental property of the physical world. Because time encompasses the antinomic qualities of transience and duration, the definition of time poses a dilemma for the formulation of a comprehensive physical theory. The partial elimination of time is a common solution to this dilemma. In his mechanical philosophy, Newton appears to resort to the elimination of the transient quality of time by identifying time with duration. It is suggested, however, that the transient quality of time may be identified as the active component of the Newtonian concept of inertia, a quasi occult quality of matter that is correlated with change, and that is essential to defining duration. The assignment of the transient quality of time to matter is a necessary consequence of Newton s attempt to render a world system of divine mathematical order. An exploratory analysis of results from the phase III study was undertaken in patients with specifically defined early disease who received injections of 0.3 mg. Group 1 was characterized by four criteria lesion size less than two disk areas, baseline visual acuity of equal to or better than 54 EDTRS letters, no prior PDT or thermal laser photocoagulation to the lesion, and absence of scarring or atrophy within the lesion. Group 2 was characterized by three criteria occult with no classic CNV absence of lipid, and better baseline acuity in the fellow eye (or worse acuity at baseline in the study eye). Occult blood is defined as traces of blood in the stool which are not perceptible to the naked eye. Usually, the passage of blood into the intestinal contents amounts to around 2 ml/day. Proof of occult blood is obtained by chemical testing (e. g. peroxidase reaction), although it is only possible to detect amounts of blood in excess of 1.5-2.0 ml/100 ml stool or to demonstrate them by means of an immunological rapid diagnostic test with a specificity of virtually 100%. The test usually comprises three specimens collected at different points in time. (s. p. 349)... 

Some visual disturbance following treatment was common in both verteporfin-treated and placebo eyes. However, the incidence of severe decrease in vision, defined as a loss of 20 letters (four lines) or more within seven days of treatment was low. The risk appeared to be higher in eyes with occult but no classic CNV, occurring in 10 (4.4%) patients in the VIP study compared with three (0.75%) in the TAP study. 

Based on data from the TAP and VIP trials, the Food and Drug Administration approved vertepofin PDT to treat AMD. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services initially approved Medicare insurance reimbursement on July 1,2001 for verteporfin PDT to treat predominantly classic CNV associated with AMD. On April 1, 2004, Medicare insurance reimbursement for verteporfin PDT was approved for small (four DAs or less) minimally classic and pure occult CNV lesions associated with AMD that show recent progression. Recent progression was defined as a decrease in visual acuity of five or more letters along with lesion growth (an increase of at least one DA), or the appearance of blood associated with the lesion, within the preceding three months (31). 

Occult enzymes exist sometimes without any apparent endogenous substrate or function, suggesting that plants have a reservoir of metabolic capabilities that normally remains hidden or unused. This phenomenon, defined as silent metabolism, can be awakened by either providing the appropriate substrate to the existing enzyme or by triggering the inactive parts of the biosynthetic pathways (Figure 2.1 Id) [16, 33].
