It would be a very poor R D organisation that was not both creative and innovative. That said, creativity and innovation are easily stifled or destroyed even in formerly effective groups. Like tender plants they only flourish in a suitable environment and are in need of constant nourishment, as is discussed in Section B. There are many actions that a Manager can take to help nurture the process of creativity and innovation and create the right climate in which chemists and other scientists can operate. To assist in this process the Manager needs to understand the characteristics of creative individuals and also the various pathways from creativity to innovative products or processes. A description of these and the techniques and aids involved forms the body of the first part of this Section. 

I think if there is one way that we could look to enhance, develop, and nurture students to a greater extent to draw people into the chemical sciences, it would be mentoring. But there is another way. It is very important, because it has come out of three of the group sessions and in the presentations. There is a problem in the way we introduce students in their college and university careers to the chemical sciences.

To get more detailed responses and to nurture a sense of inclusion, we decided to hold focus groups with instructors. Initially, we held two sessions in May of 2005. Twelve instructors participated in the two sessions, primarily graduate teaching assistants and part-time lecturers (who cover the majority of our core writing courses). These sessions were primarily designed to open up discussions about what our instructors valued in writing for our English 102 course. 

Social functioning is defined as the ability to develop, maintain, and nurture mature social relationships. Our group has concluded that measures of social functioning 1) reflect physical and mental health status, 2) serve to indicate the need for health care, and 3) reflect appropriate outcomes of health care.

Let us recapitulate on the human variations underlying the above, with some more explanation, and dig deeper. Human beings differ for a number of reasons, but they may be classified into two broad groups, nature and nurture—or genetics and environment.
