Nucleophilic aromatic substitution halogen exchange reactions

Substituted 1,2,3-triazole 1-oxides 448 have been reported to undergo electrophilic and nucleophilic aromatic substitution and are subject to debromination, proton-metal exchange, and halogen-metal exchange followed by electrophilic addition. Transmetallation and cross-coupling have not been described. 3-Substituted 1,2,3-triazole 1-oxides 448 can be proton-ated or alkylated at the O-atom and they can be deoxygenated and deal-kylated. The individual reactions are described in Section 4.2.7.1-4.2.7.14. [Pg.83]

When CH3Li or n-BuLi is used in halogen-metal exchange, a rather electrophilic MeX or n-BuX is obtained as a by-product. The alkyl halide can undergo S 2 substitution with the organolithium compound as nucleophile to give the nucleophilic aromatic substitution product. However, Sn2 reactions of organolithium compounds with alkyl... [Pg.79]

Mechanistic interpretations of the copper-catalyzed aromatic nucleophilic substitution reactions remain unsettled even after half-a-century of debate [19, 20]. Possible pathways involve an S Ar reaction mediated by copper complexation to the pi-system (Scheme 4a), an electron transfer reaction followed by halide dissociation (Scheme 4b), four-centered c-bond metathesis reaction (Scheme 4c) and Cu(l) oxidative addition to the Ar-X bond, followed by the nucleophile exchange and reductive elimination in the resulting Cu(lll) system (Scheme 4d). There is presently a considerable body of experimental and theoretical data for and against each of the proposed mechanisms [21]. While the mechanistic studies were mostly related to the formation of C-C, C-O and C-N bonds, it is likely that the copper-catalyzed halogen exchange reactions follow a similar trend. [Pg.22]

Nucleophilic substitution can be employed to introduce fluorine into specific positions within an aromatic ring, and the Halex (halogen exchange) reaction is commonly used in industty. ° Unlike aliphatic reactions, elimination is usually not an issue for aromatic substrates, and as such, strongly basic nucleophilic sources of fluoride can be utilised in the reaction. The reaction works for electron deficient aromatics and is generally carried out... [Pg.319]

In Volume 13 reactions of aromatic compounds, excluding homolytic processes due to attack of atoms and radicals (treated in a later volume), are covered. The first chapter on electrophilic substitution (nitration, sulphonation, halogenation, hydrogen exchange, etc.) constitutes the bulk of the text, and in the other two chapters nucleophilic substitution and rearrangement reactions are considered. [Pg.516]

Notes-. Most used reactions are SEAr (iododemetallation) and SNAr (halogen exchange, copper assisted). SeI, unimolecular electrophilic substitution Se2, bimolecular electrophilic substitution SeAp aromatic electrophilic substitution SeI, intramolecular electrophilic substitution S l, unimolecular nucleophilic substitution 3 2, bimolecular nucleophilic substitution S Ar, aromatic nucleophilic substitution. [Pg.749]
