Nozzle ring

In a turbine that is running, erosion-corrosion is pretty much confined to units that are operating on saturated steam with inadequate boiler-water treatment. This type of erosion takes place behind the nozzle ring and around the diaphragms where they fit in the casing. 

The top curve of overspeed versus time demonstrates that the string will accelerate to 22% overspeed due to expansion of the gas trapped between the valve and expander nozzle ring. However, if an eddy current brake were part of the string, the acceleration of the string would be reduced to 11% overspeed. This would provide an important margin of safety.

Have too long a simmer Dual ring control, valves (ASME I) may fail to achieve full-lift at allowable overpressure limit if the nozzle ring is set lower than that recommended, a situation which could lead to a catastrophic event as it could take too long for the valve to react on the overpressure condition. 

To achieve, however, the adjustable reseat pressure required by the codes, a nozzle ring is added in the design, as shown in Figure 5.3. The nozzle ring, the nozzle and disc holder form the so-called huddling chamber, the strength of which determines not only the opening action but also the reseat pressure. 

The nozzle ring can be screwed up and down the nozzle to adjust the valve s operational characteristics. It is held in place by a lock pin which is accessible outside of the valve s body. 

Remove the blowdown ring lockscrew from the body (Figure 10.27). Remove the blowdown ring from the nozzle and make sure you register the number of turns to unscrew the nozzle ring so it can be fitted in the same position when reassembling the valve. This is important because with small test benches without enough capacity, the blowdown cannot be set. 

Liquid spray washes away separated particles as they reach outside wall oi nozzle rings.

The WWER inlet and outlet nozzles are not welded to the nozzle ring, but they are either machined from a thicker forged ring, for the WWER-440 vessels, or forged in the hot stage from a thick forged ring, for the WWER-1000 vessels.
