Novel electronic and photonic properties of thiophene-based oligomers

Novel Electronic and Photonic Properties of Thiophene-based Oligomers [Pg.477]

Because of the ease of chemical modification of the thiophene rings, especially at the a- and fl-positions, these materials acquire good solution-processability and mechanical drawability [10]. This versatility allowed the wide investigation of their structure-property relationships. For example, spectroscopic studies related to thermochromism and solvatochromism [11] revealed that the electronic properties of the polythiophenes are strongly coupled to the backbone conformation. Moreover, polarized IR studies of drawn polythiophene films showed that the charged carrier motion is highly confined along the backbone [12]. [Pg.477]

2 Materials and molecular alignments thin films and crystals [Pg.479]

In relation to the molecular alignment, incident angle-dependent polarized absorption spectroscopy [31, 32] of thin films gives important information on the electronic states of the molecules and their interaction in the solid disordered system (i.e. thin films). This method is based on measuring the polarized [Pg.481]

The novel electronic and photonic properties of thiophene-based oligomers have been described, using examples of FET device applications and laser characteristics. Thiophene-based oligomers were shown to be one of the most promising materials. [Pg.492]
