Notional amount changes

The same valuation principle applies to more complicated swaps. For example, there are swaps whose notional amount changes in a predetermined way over the life of the swap. These include amortizing swaps, accreting swaps, and roller coaster swaps. Once the payments are specified, the present value is calculated as described above by simply adjusting the payment amounts by the changing notional amounts— the methodology does not change. [Pg.627]

The swap is diagrammed in FIGURE 10.6. The arbitrt eur receives the total return on the bank loan and pays the counterparty bank the bond return plus an additional 30 basis points, the price of the swap. These rates are applied to notional amounts of the loan and bond set at a ratio of 2 to 1, since the bond s price is more sensitive to changes in credit status than that of the loan. [Pg.184]

The notional amount of each tranche to transact is a function of the trade delta. This is the change in price of each tranche for a given change in credit spreads. The value of delta fluctuates, so the tranche notionals will need to be rebalanced periodically as the delta dictates. [Pg.217]

All eucaryotic cells contain various proteins in their cytoplasm that interact to form mechanically stabilizing structures. The amounts of these proteins differ with cell type, and the structural elements - collectively referred to as the cytoskeleton -can be very labile. Labile transformations of cytoskeletal networks are involved in such essential biological phenomena as chromosome movement and cell division, intracellular material transport, shape changes relating to tissue development, and amoeboid-like locomotion (1-3). A great deal of work in recent years has led to the biochemical characterization of numerous cytoskeletal proteins(A) and the elucidation of their spatial localization within a cell(2). However, few quantifiable models yet exist that are appropriate for incorporating that information into notions of shape transformation and cell movement(5-8). [Pg.224]

So the dilemma is this. We can identify the ordinary notion of reference with two different relations, relative reference and reference simpliciter. If we identify it with relative reference we lose the continuity of discourse. Adopting a new conceptual scheme would amount to changing the subject. Competition would be replaced by different but equal truths . If we identify the ordinary notion of reference with reference simpliciter, we lose the ability to explain changes in linguistic behavior in terms of referential change. What shall we do ... [Pg.57]

Titration curves have the virtue of simplicity, while thermodynamic models have, at least in principle, greater capacity to be adapted to changing process conditions. In practice, the amount of effort required to develop a thermodynamic model based on real chemical species and physical properties is usually prohibitive. Semiempirical models based on notional species and concentration equilibria can be developed quite readily (Gustafsson and Waller, 1983). However, these have extrapolation properties identical to the original titration curves. In both cases the pH of a mixture of components can be predicted accurately, subject to the assumptions that mixing two solutions of equal pH results in a solution with the same pH and the pH measurement is ideal (Gustafsson, 1982 Luyben, 1990). The validity of this assumption is discussed in Walsh (1993). [Pg.354]

Hyperbolic fixed points also illustrate the important general notion of structural stability. A phase portrait is structurally stable if its topology cannot be changed by an arbitrarily small perturbation to the vector field. For instance, the phase portrait of a saddle point is structurally stable, but that of a center is not an arbitrarily small amount of damping converts the center to a spiral. [Pg.155]

The vast amount of work performed with surface sensitive spectroscopic methods, notably X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), has changed drastically our notion of the preferred modes of chemisorption of carbon monoxide on transition metals. Less than one decade ago Ford (38) in his authorative review still stated tungsten to be unique among the transition metals in being able to... [Pg.187]

Dynamic adsorption layers differ from equilibrium layers not only by the existence of an angular dependence but also by the difference in the adsorbed amount averaged over the bubble surface (Sadhal Johnson, 1983). Usually, in foam flotation, the surfactant yield is calculated under the assumption of equilibrium adsorption at the surface of buoyant bubbles. The theory of dynamic adsorption layers lead to substantial changes in the notion of surfactant flotation. Thus, the mechanism of transport at the bubble-solution interface has a substantial effect on the transport process at the surfactant solution-foam boundary. [Pg.270]
