Notched impact resistance

Polycarbonates based on tetramethylbisphenol A are thermally stable and have a high Vicat softening point of 196°C. On the other hand they have lower impact and notched impact resistance than the normal polymer. Blends with styrene-based polymers were introduced in 1980, and compared with PC/ABS blends, are claimed to have improved hydrolytic resistance, lower density and higher heat deflection temperatures. Suggested applications are as dishes for microwave ovens and car headlamp reflectors. [Pg.579]

Polycarbonate/ABS Notched impact resistance, hardness, heat-distortion temperature... [Pg.348]

Crystallinity and molecular orientation improve the mechanical properties but are harmful to notched impact resistance. [Pg.223]

UHMWPE exhibits an outstanding sliding abrasion resistance, the highest notched impact resistance of any known plastic material and a low coefficient of friction (13). [Pg.83]

Because of low cost, high heat deflection temperature (HDT (104°C)), notched impact resistance, improved low temperature impact and flexibility, weather resistance, flame retardancy, and impact resistance, the PP/EPDM blend has got a widespread applications. These unique characteristics of this thermoplastic elastomer blend make it an attractive alternative to conventional elastomer in a variety of markets such as automobile industries, wire, cable insulator, automobile bumpers and fascia, hose, gaskets, seals, weather stripping, among others. [Pg.436]

Impact strength (notch impact resistance is the impact energy absorbed by the un-notched (notched) test object in relation to the smallest cross-section of the test object prior to the test. [Pg.68]

High elongation at break and high notched impact resistance... [Pg.1809]

Blends of PC and ABS engineering thermoplastic are commercially important. One of the reasons why the PC/ABS blends are successful is due to the complementary properties of the components. Good thermal and mechanical properties are found in PC, and ABS has ease of processability and reliable notched impact resistance. [Pg.168]

Impact Resistance (Izod-Charpy) and Notched Impact Resistance Strength... [Pg.570]

COMPARISON WITH COMPETITIVE MATERIALS Notched impact resistance better then impact modified polyamide, PTFE, and PTFE modified polyoxymethylene, abrasion resistance better than all above mentioned materials. [Pg.78]

Flame, impact, and chemical resistance Flame resistance, impact resistance, processability Notched impact resistance, hardness, heat-distortion temperature Lower cost... [Pg.76]

Notched impact resistance is performed on a sample with a large haw introduced on purpose to ensure that the crack inihates from a predehned place, in a controlled maimer. By introducing the dehned haw, one obtains experimental results with much lower scatter than those found when performing unnotched tests. This has led to the popularization of the notched test even though, as explained previously, real life parts do not usually contain notches, so the results of notched teshng, while reproducible, are not relevant in most instances. [Pg.523]
