From spring to faU, the intrusion water from the Pacific is narrowly confined to the continental slope south of China, only in winter, when the northeast monsoon becomes fully developed, can it spread in the southern South China Sea. The seasonal cycle over most of the SCS basin is determined predominantly by the regional dynamics within the SCS, and is forced mainly by smface wind stress curl on baroclinic Rossby waves. Furthermore, the Kmoshio also exerts a significant influence on the SCS. However, the water exchange in the Luzon Strait is very complex. 

When large-scale circulation is concerned, the northeast monsoon will drive a basin-scale cyclonic circulation with each cyclonic g rre in the northern and southern SCS (NSCS, SSCS), respectively, and the circulation displays a double-g3Te structure. In summer, the circulation in the NSCS will still maintain a weak cyclonic gyre. However, due to the southwest monsoon, the circulation in the SSCS displays an anticyclonic g3Te. 

A study was conducted in Singapore s Southern coastline during the Northeast monsoon season to evaluate if this coastal area is a sink or souree for selected SVOCs via air-sea diffusive exchange as well as to investigate the SML enrichment effect.
