Results are represented of an experiment on introduction of wild samples of red clover as well as clover cultivars from geographically distant regions in the foothills of North Ossetia. Samples are chosen with the largest genetic value for creation of clover cultivars of hayfield-pasture type. 

In connection with it the aim of our research consisted in the study of economic and biological traits of introduced forms of the red clover and in selection of samples promising for creation of hayfield-pasture cultivars in North Ossetia - Alania. 

Introduced from Belarus cultivars Yaskravy, Minskiy Mutant, Ustodlivy had nearly the same productivity, which didn t exceed the level of standard. Plants of cultivar Yaskravy had small height and seed number in inflorescences, while in cul-tivar Ustodlivy the latter index didn t exceed 13%. Apparently, introduced cultivars SibNIIK-10, Yaskravy, Minskiy Mutant and Ustodlivy for their economic and biological traits don t suit as initial samples for creation of hayfield-pasture cultivars in conditions of North Ossetia - Alania, because they lack sufficient adaptation reserves allowing them to adjust to ecological-geographic and climatic conditions of particular locality.

In experiments with ear treatment crops have been chosen as material, which are widely in Northern Caucasus for production and selection. The tested samples included winter wheat harvested in 2009 (cultivars Ivina, Vassa, Bat ko, Don 107, Kollega, Kalym), winter wheat - cultivar Bastion, destined for Northern Caucasian Region, and selection samples of several millet species, introduced to North Ossetia Japanese millet Echinochloa frumentacea), panic Setaria italica Panicumitalicum) and Italian millet Setaria italica). All millet samples were harvested in 2010.
