Noncyclic Aliphatics

NONCYCLIC ALIPHATICS Many of the biguanides have oral hypoglycemic activity, and metformin (87) is such an antidiabetic agent. Cyanamide has a highly reactive nitrile function because of the electropositive NH2 group [Pg.20]

The special types of bonding in three-membered ethyleneimine rings (41—43) have been studied using microwave spectroscopy (44—47), electron diffraction (48), and photoelectron spectroscopy (49—51), and have occupied theoretical chemists up to the present day (52). These studies reveal that ethyleneimine has a distincdy shortened C—C bond of 0.148 nm (as compared to 0.154 nm in open-chain compounds) and a noticeably lengthened C—N bond of 0.149 nm (compared to 0.146 nm). Because of the high s character of the free electron pair on the nitrogen, ethyleneimine also shows a lower basicity (p Ka = 7.98) than noncyclic aliphatic amines such as dimethyl amine (p Ka = 10.7) (53). [Pg.3]

In the absence of catalysts, HNF2 adds reversibly to cyclic and noncyclic aliphatic aldehydes and ketones to produce a-difluoro-aminoalcohols R COR" + HNF2 R C(OH)NF2R". These alcohols are prepared by mixing the components at room temperature or below (122) in the presence or absence of solvents (78). The formation of a-difluoroaminoalcohols follows that of the complex formed by hydrogen bonding. [Pg.165]

In the presence of concentrated or fuming sulfuric acid, cyclic and noncyclic aliphatic ketones react at room temperature with HNF2 to form gem-bis(difluoroamino) derivatives in 60-85% yield (108, 109). [Pg.165]

Paraffins are the alkane hydrocarbons (straight or branch chained, noncyclic, aliphatic hydrocarbons) the simplest of which is methane, CH4, a gas. With more carbons, paraffins become liquid and eventually waxy solids. Chlo-... [Pg.164]
