Experimental eqnilibrinm data are almost always essential. While theoretical models are available to predict snch data, and are very helpfnl in preliminary design, pilot studies and scaleup should be based on confirmed experimental measmements. As an aid in the design of supports fur horizontal vessels, Zick (165) has presented the nomographi shown in Fig. 11.22, which indicates the most economical lot-Ations and types of supports for vessels on two supports. The nomograph is based on a liquid density of 42 lb per cii ft. If liquids of different densitie.% are involved or differ nt materials of eonstruclion are to be used, a preliminary design may be obtained by use of the figure. 

The nomographs by Zanker can be used to make a preliminary estimate of the size of cyclone needed. The specialist manufacturers of hydrocyclone equipment should be consulted to determine the best arrangements and design for a particular application.
