NMR-MOUSE mobile universal surface

Quality tests are usually performed using bench-top, low filed NMR spectrometers. Volume-average properties are determined with this equipment. Surface layer of samples can be analysed using recently developed NMR-MOUSE (mobile universal surface explorer) [26, 188]. The NMR-MOUSE is a relatively small NMR device suited for the investigation of surface-near volume elements. Lateral surface heterogeneity of elastomeric materials can be scanned with this device. Possible applications of the NMR-MOUSE for the characterisation of rubbery materials were demonstrated [26,189-191]. [Pg.388]

Heterogeneity of rubbery materials Use of NMR imaging, NMR MOUSE (mobile universal surface explorer) and photoacoustic FT-IR is reviewed in Chapters 2 and 7. These methods allow determination of defects and heterogeneity in technical elastomer products, surface and depth profiles. [Pg.654]

The phase terms Mk2 in (1.2.4) refer to quadratic field profiles. Such a profile is encountered in good approximation in single-sided NMR, for example with the NMR-MOUSE (Mobile Universal Surface Explorer, cf. Section 9.3.4) [Blii6]. Use of nonlinear field profiles appears to be restricted to exceptional cases nevertheless, it also provides access to molecular transport parameters by appropriate manipulation of the moments of FAt) = d B,(t)/dx2. [Pg.14]

A special publication of the Royal Society of Chemistry on Magnetic Resonance in Food Science discusses many aspects of the use of conventional and less conventional NMR methods in food analysis (such as oil, meat, beer, wine, moisture in biopolymers) including multivariate analysis of time domain NMR (TD-NMR) °, the use of an NMR-MOUSE (mobile universal surface explorer) for portable NMR and a review of the challenges in transferring NMR technology to the on-line industrial situation . Quantitative analysis methods of mixtures of fatty compounds by H -NMR are reviewed. Rapid simultaneous determination by H NMR of unsaturation and composition of acyl groups have also been reported in vegetable oils. The use of IR, Raman, NMR, and MS was reviewed for the analysis of polysaccharides related to food. ... [Pg.407]

G. Eidmann, R. Savelsberg, P. Blumler, B. Bliimich 1996, (The NMR-MOUSE, A mobile universal surface explorer), J. Magn. Reson. A122, 104-109. [Pg.122]

The Mobile Universal Surface Explorer (MOUSE) is described as a new-generation, hand-held instrument with exciting potential for use on-line." MOUSE devices are based on the principles of inside-out NMR where open magnet designs are used for measurements within the held. Essentially the unit... [Pg.113]

In addition, we have probed hydrolyzed Estane sample with the NMR Mobile Universal Surface Explorer (NMR MOUSE) (10). This technique is a quick non-invasive technique to determine the effect that polymer degradation has on its physical properties. Polymer chain mobility can be detected by proton spin-spin relaxation time measurements of hydrolyzed Estane using the NMR MOUSE. The spin-spin relaxation time decay curve shows increased chain mobility upon hydrolysis (Figure 11). The decay curve is fitted with a biexponential decay function to give two T2 values. The T22 associated with the more mobile polymer chains shows an inverse relationship to the molecular weight decrease as would be expected. This technique shows promise as an in situ probe of hydrolysis in high explosives in a non-destructive manner. [Pg.218]

Homogeneous magnetic fields are not a prerequisite for imaging and relaxation measurements, and inexpensive devices like mobile low-field instruments, the NMR-MOUSE, and mobile imagers can be built for use near or in the production line and for operation by technicians. Bliimich et al. [208] have developed an NMR Mobile Universal Surface Explorer (MOUSE) of low-field (9.17 MHz), which scans with a spatial resolution of 3 mm and... [Pg.709]
