Sulfur nitrogen systems

HC, hydrocarbons TRS, total reduced sulfur TS, total sulfur NO total oxides of nitrogen, but system may be specific for NO, NO2, or both. [Pg.551]

Based on donor atom type, macrocyclic ligands can be considered to span two extreme types. First there are those systems which chiefly contain nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus, and/or arsenic donors. These macrocycles tend to have considerable affinity for transition and other heavy metal ions they usually show much less tendency to form stable complexes with ions of the alkali and alkaline earth metals. The present discussion will be restricted to a consideration of a selection of such ligands and their complexes. [Pg.12]

Earth, with its four spheres, is a good approximation of a closed system. As you learned in Unit 4, a closed system is subject to the principles of equilibrium. Every change to the system affects the whole equilibrium. Elements such as carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and oxygen regularly cycle through Earth s four spheres. Thus, Earth is in a constant dynamic equilibrium. [Pg.456]

Examples of virtually all four-membered rings with two heteroatoms of nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen have been prepared. In some cases simple derivatives of the parent systems are unknown and in others the literature is too extensive to cover in a single review. Therefore, selections have been made to represent the various classes without being encyclopedic. [Pg.451]

The literature contains examples of virtually all heterocyclic systems with two heteroatoms of nitrogen, sulfur and oxygen. However, in some cases simple derivatives of the parent... [Pg.467]

Chromatography has also been used to separate the unsaturated phos-phorus(V)-nitrogen-sulfur ring systems 3.4—3.6. " The six-membered ring... [Pg.23]

This enzyme system catalyzes the oxidation of various nitrogen-, sulfur -, and phosphorus-containing compounds, which tend to be nucleophilic, although compounds with an anionic group are not substrates. For example, the N-oxidation of trimethylamine (Fig. 4.19) is catalyzed by this enzyme, but also the hydroxylation of secondary amines, imines, and arylamines and the oxidation of hydroxylamines and hydrazines ... [Pg.83]

In different types of condensed polycyclic systems, mostly nitrogen-containing systems, the elimination of attached fluorine by thiols has proved a valuable synthetic tool for the introduction of sulfur moieties. In 4-(aminosulfonyI)-7-fluoro-2,l,3-benzoxadiazole(l) the reactivity of the fluorine towards sulfur nucleophiles is sufficiently high that it can be used analytically for the detection of thiols14 (c.g., in peptides). The reaction proceeds almost quantitatively. [Pg.446]

Photocyclization arising by intramolecular elimination of HC1, HBr, or HI has been extensively used in the synthesis of nitrogen-containing heterocycles, but much less so in oxygen and sulfur systems. The mechanism of these transformations is not always clear some proceed by way of an initial carbon-halogen bond homolysis, whereas others involve cyclization and... [Pg.86]
