The majority of nitrogen in the feed is prodnced in the coke. Nitrogen species typically attach to the FCC catalyst and are deposited as coke. However, the majority of the nitrogen in coke is liberated as N2 with only a small amonnt resulting in NO. Table 17.2 is a survey showing FCC feed nitrogen distribution to products.

Ammonia is produced as a by-pioduct during the dry distillation of coal in the manufacture of coal-gas. and in the manufacture of coke in coke-ovens. Only a small percentage of the total nitrogen of the coal is recovered in the form of ammonia, the remainder is distributed in the coke, in the tar, as cyanide in the gas and ammo-niacal liquor, and as free nitrogen in the gas.
