Nitrogen compounds estimation

Calculation of group increments for oxygen, sulfur and nitrogen compounds has allowed the estimation of conventional ring-strain energies (CRSE) for saturated heterocycles from enthalpies of formation. For 1,3-dioxolane, CRSE is about 20 kJ mol . In 2,4-dialkyl-l,3-dioxolanes the cis form is always thermodynamically the more stable by approximately 1 kJ mol" . [Pg.32]

The group contributions are given in Table 6. The group values were used to predict the enthalpy of formation of every compound in Tables 1-5 (except for those containing nitrogen). The estimated values were then compared to the experimental values. The agreement was usually to within about 10 kJ mol f The worst cases were for butyl methyl sulfone, t-butyl methyl sulfone and l-methyl-4-(l-methylethenylsulfonyl)benzene, for which the deviations were 12.4, 14.0 and 12.3 kJ mol-1, respectively. The average deviation was 4.4kJ mol-1. [Pg.100]

A stopper inserted. The contents are now poured into the combustion tube and the bottle rinsed a few times with CuO powder, the rinsings being poured into the combustion tube. The layer of CuO powder and substance should be approximately 10 cms. in length. A 30 cms. layer of wire-form CuO is then poured in and an asbestos plug inserted to keep it in position. Pig 74 reduced Cu spiral, 10 cms. long, is prepared as described on p. 447 as in the estimation of C and H in nitrogenous compounds, it serves to decompose oxides of N with the liberation of free N it is placed in.position as shown in Eig. 73. [Pg.462]

Sequestration of plant natural products by herbivorous insects is widespread. This is not surprising, since most insects are herbivorous and it is estimated that there are between two and six million species. While these sequestrators obviously exploit their alkaloid-rich host plants, such specialists represent a very minor component of the total herbivorous population. In essence, these nitrogenous compounds are highly effective deterrents for most of the herbivorous species with which they share their world. On the other hand, a brief discussion of some of the alkaloids and their specialist herbivores illustrates the versatiliity of these insects as exploiters of toxic compounds This alkaloidal treatment has been derived from the tables of Brown and Trigo10 and emphasizes... [Pg.185]

In these compounds, some of the resonances occur at low frequencies for example, pyrrole v+ and v line frequencies are respectively 1.685 and 1.408 MHz 77 78). Despite the necessary simplifications, the jt population on the pyrrole nitrogen, as estimated from experimental data, is not very different from the theoretically computed value. [Pg.97]

On a global basis, however, these estimated pollutant emissions of NO2 are probably a minor factor in the total circulation of nitrate compounds within the atmosphere. It is estimated (3) that natural emissions of NO2 may be as much as 15 times greater than the pollutant emissions or more than 700 X 10 tons. This estimate of natural emissions is based on an estimated nitrogen cycle for the atmosphere, and it is believed to result from NO produced by biological reactions. Peterson and Junge (24) recently estimated natural nitrogen compound emissions may be no more than twice as large as currently estimated pollutant sources. [Pg.4]

For nitrogen compounds where the nucleophilic nitrogen atom is hindered, the methyl cation affinity values calculated are less than those estimated by the reference model. The difference between the two values is assumed as the steric parameter, i.e ... [Pg.413]
