Niobium magnetic properties

Carbides, Silicides, and Related Compounds. Niobium carbide has been obtained by deposition from a NbCl4-H2-CH4 mixture. There has been a review of the electrical, thermoelectrical, and magnetic properties of MC-TaC systems (M = Hf or... [Pg.68]

It is used in arc-welding rods for stabilized grades of stainless steel. Thousands of pounds of niobium have been used in advanced air frame systems such as were used in the Gemini space program. The element has superconductive properties superconductive magnets have been... [Pg.104]

The alloy niobium titanium (NbTi) and the intermetallic compound of niobium and tin (Nbs Sn) are the most technologically advanced LTS materials presently available. Even though NbTi has a lower critical field and critical current density, it is often selected because its metallurgical properties favor convenient wire fabrication. In contrast, NbsSn is a very brittle material and requires wire fabrication nnder very well-defined temperature conditions. However, the recent discovery by Akimitsu and coworkers (Nature 10, 63, 2001) of the snpercondneting property of MgBt2 has spurred new activity in the development of still another LTS conductor for magnetic coils. [Pg.1296]

Tin and inorganic tin compounds are used in a variety of products and processes. Tin-niobium wires have interesting properties in the field of superconductive magnets which generate enormous field strengths but use almost no power. [Pg.750]

Titanium-aluminum-niobium alloys have been developed for biocompatible, high-strength surgical implants (Semlitsch et al. 1985), while metal-resin composites containing niobium as filler have potential use as restorative materials in dentistry (Misra and Bowen 1977). The metal possesses superior superconductive properties in strong magnetic fields, which may be... [Pg.1041]
