Nifedipine drug interactions

Other reported potentially significant drug interactions include the combination of verapamil or nifedipine with CBZ, which, at times, can lead to toxicity secondary to increases in CBZ levels, and neurotoxic reactions when verapamil or diltiazem is combined with lithium.

Nifedipine was one of the first CYP3A4 substrates to be identified (167,168) and has been the subject of a large number of drug-drug interaction studies both in vitro and in vivo. Pharmacokinetic studies with nifedipine clearly identify inhibitors, such as itraconazole (169) and grapefruit juice (170), and inducers, such as the barbiturates (171) and rifampin (172).

Not all predicted drug interactions are expected to be clinically significant. C. Delavirdine Drug interactions are a major problem with delavirdine, which is metabolized by both CYP3A4 and CYP2D6. Its blood levels are decreased by antacids, ddl. phenytoin. rifampin, and nelfinavir. Conversely, the blood levels of delavirdine are increased by azole anti-fiingals and macrolide antibiotics. Delavirdine increases plasma levels of several benzodiazepines, nifedipine, protea.se inhibitors, quinidine, and warfarin. Delavirdine causes skin rash in up to 20% of patients, and the drug should be avoided in pregnancy since it is teratogenic in animals.
