Most of the developments in the past two decades toward new products have been modifications and improvements to existing systems, rather than totally new products. Research has continued, of course, in search of new and better systems to cope with the growing problems of hazardous waste disposal and containment. 

Dr. Bendich is Associate Director, New Product Research at GlaxoSmithKline, where she is responsible for leading research initiatives for products that include TUMS, Os-Cal and Geritol, as well as other nutrient-containing dietary supplements marketed in and outside the US. Prior to joining SmithKline Beecham, Dr. Bendich was Assistant Director of Clinical Nutrition at Roche where she participated in many of the groundbreaking clinical studies involving antioxidants and folic acid.
