Nebramycins

Recently, Hanessian has reported methods for direct modification of tobramycin. Tobramycin (or nebramycin) differs from kanamycin B only in its 3 -deoxygenation, which makes tobramycin immune from the modification catalyzed by APH(3 ). A library of tobramycin analogs bearing various functionalities at 0-5 was prepared (Scheme 4.23). In general, these tobramycin analogs were less active than tobramycin (Table 4.15). However, compounds 157 and 159 showed activity against P. aeruginosa (ATCC 27853) (MIC = 12.5 fig/mL). [Pg.166]

It belongs to family nebramycins, is isolated from Streptomyces tenebrarius. Its antibacterial activity is similar to gentamicin and slightly more active than gentamicin against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus. [Pg.328]

Apramycin is a broad-spectrum aminocyclitol antibiotic and component of the nebramycin complex, produced by a strain of Streptomyces tenebrarius. Use of this antibiotic is specifically aimed at mass therapy of colibacillosis and salmonellosis in veal calves and swine. It is administered to calves by intramuscular or oral route at a dose of 20-40 mg/kg body weight/day for 5 days, and to swine via the drinking water at a dosage of 7.5-12.5 mg/kg bw/day for 7 days, or via the feed at a rate of 100 mg/kg feed for 28 days. It is further used for treatment of colibacillosis in lambs given orally at a dosage of 10 mg/kg bw/day for 3-5 days, and for treatment of E. coli septicemia in poultry administered in the drinking water at a concentration of 250-500 mg/L for 7 days. In contrast to other aminoglycosides, apramycin is not used in human medicine. [Pg.29]

Resistance to tobramycin. A complex of anti-bacterial compounds known as nebramycin was first isolated from a strain of streptomyces [215,216]. Of these, factor 6, afterwards known as tobramycin, was the most active [217]. The compound is extremely effective as an anti-bacterial agent against Ps. aeruginosa. Neu [110] reported that 80% of strains tested were sensitive to 1.56 g/ml. [Pg.380]

Tobramycetin tobramycin, tobramycin [ban, inn, jan, usan] (nebramycin VI Tobramycetin etc.) is an (aminoglycoside) ANTIBIOTIC. Clinically, it has ANTIBACTERIAL properties, and is mainly used against Gram-negative organisms by systemic administration (it is not absorbed orally). tobuterol terbutaline. [Pg.276]

Clinical reports on tobramycin continued to describe cures in a variety of Gram-negative infections.1+8 A radioimmune assay was described.1 9 Initial explorations into 15N-NMR spectra of several of the nebramycin components suggested a promising tool for following aminoglycoside modification.50... [Pg.112]

Further development of the optimization of metabolism-controlled fermentation served the purpose of more efficient production of erythromycin and aminoglycoside antibiotics (nebramycin, neomycin). In a new bioreaction system, simultaneous addition of 8 different substances and continuous measurement and control of 11 parameters were solved by on-line computer control. [Pg.164]
