Nature Cure

One way to obtain enhanced heat and solvent resistance in SBR-based PSA is sulfur addition. It is difficult to obtain sufficient cure with sulfur during normal drying cycles (2-5 min at 150-180°C). Furthermore, cure via sulfur may continue after leaving the oven, thus degrading adhesion. When used in contact with copper, the sulfur may promote corrosion. The use of phenolic overcomes all of these problems despite the fact that its natural cure speed is also insufficient for the time frame available. The natural curing reactions that occur in a standard Portland cement involve the formation of calcium hydroxide (portlandite) and Ca(OH)2, as well as calcium silicate hydrate (CSH). The undiluted essential oil from the leaves of Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree), which contains the sesquiterpene viridiflorene and the monoterpenoids eucalyptol, Umo-nene, and terpinen-4-ol, has been used as a topical natural cure for bacterial and fungal skin infections.

Loss of sizing, or fugitivity, is only seen when a paper or board has an off-machine sizing value which deteriorates with time. It has often been confused, especially with AKD sizing, with failure to develop sizing, or not naturally curing to the same values obtained by oven curing.
