During the two decades that have passed since the above-described studies were conducted, the synthesis of nanomaterials has attracted enormous attenhon, and the synthesis of nanostructured zirconia has become a focus of research. Whereas, during the early days research into nanoscale particles was carried out mainly by those achve in the field of ceramics, today the major inveshgahons into nanostruc-... [Pg.247]

Related systems It should be noted that specific properties for applications could be enhanced by using solid solutions, doped materials, and composites, instead of pure ceria. For example, ceria-zirconia solid solution is a well known ceria based material for enhanced OSC and high ionic conductivity for solid state fuel cell components. It is also used in the three way catalysts for automobile waste gas cleaning, because of the improved thermal stability, surface area, and reducibility. The synthesis, structure, and properties of ceria-zirconia have been actively studied for a long time. Di Monte and Kaspar et al. presented feature articles on the nanostructured ceria—zirconia-mixed oxides. The studies on phase, structures, as well as the microstructures are discussed and reviewed (Di Monte et al., 2004). [Pg.295]

Mesoporous ceria—zirconia nanostructures could be obtained through evaporation induced self assembly process (Yuan et al. 2007 Figure 8). Such ordered nanostructures may show promising applications in catalysis and sensors with special selectivities. [Pg.296]

Doped materials, where a structural component of the material becomes partially substituted by a dopant species or when external species ingress in the original material as an interstitial ion. The term doping is thus applied to, for instance, yttria-doped zirconias used for potentiometric determination of O2 but also to describe the incorporation of Li in polymers and nanostructured carbons. [Pg.3]

The peak 5 at around 470°C, observed in DSC curve, corresponds to an exothermic phenomenon without any loss of weight. It can thus be attributed to the crystallization of the amorphous zirconia. This is confirmed by the X-ray diffraction pattern obtained after the thermogravimetric analysis (Fig. 9). According to del Monte et al. [17] the peaks located at 20 = 28 and 31.5° are characteristic of the monoclinic zirconia whereas those situated at 20 = 30, 34.5 and 50° belong to the tetragonal structure. This study showed that nanostructured porous zirconia has a low thermal stability. In the preparation of the stable and efficient catalysts for the complete oxidation of aromatics, this low thermal stability will be taken into account. [Pg.1042]
