Micro-Nano Topography Characterization 2.1. Biological Surfaces [Pg.167]

On the other hand, the combined use of RIMAPS and Variogram techniques for analyzing biological surfaces from digitized images is a strong user-independent procedure that can be used to obtain valuable information on the topography and microstructure of the leaf surface from both fresh and dried herbarium material. [Pg.167]

Even though the surface condition of leaves presented in the micrographs of Fig. 19(a) (fresh) and Fig. 20(a) (dried), and the magnifications used in each case are very different, the RIMAPS analysis detect the same topographic patterns on the [Pg.168]

The simple eye-inspection of their respective images cannot give enough information to confirm that both micrographs correspond to the same botanical species. [Pg.169]

Wetting behavior of the C. esculenta leaf is illustrated in Fig. 19(d). Water drops with a volume of 10 /zl adopted a spherical shape denoting the hydrophobic characteristics of the leaves of this plant. [Pg.169]
